What usage means. Two things, both added to the plan fee.
Compute
Counted per second, for every replica that is running. A sleeping app has no running replica, so it is not charged for compute. If an app must answer at once, keep one replica always on; it is then billed like any running replica.

The data your apps send out. Each plan includes an allowance; only what goes beyond it is billed.
The dashboard shows what each app has used in the current cycle, so the bill can be checked line by line.

Questions
What do I pay if my app gets no traffic?
The plan fee. An idle app sleeps, and a sleeping app is not charged for compute. If you turn on "keep one replica always on", that replica runs all the time and is billed for it.
What counts as usage?
Two things: compute, counted per second for every replica that is running, and bandwidth your apps send beyond the plan's allowance. Both are added to the plan fee.
How do I know what my bill will be?
The dashboard shows the usage of the current cycle as it builds up, broken down per app. The invoice lists the same lines.
Do I need a card for the trial?
No. The trial lasts 7 days, comes with $5 of usage credit, and starts once you verify a GitHub account.
Is there a free plan?
No. After the trial, the smallest plan is Hobby at $5 a month.
Which apps can I deploy?
Express apps on Node.js today. Next.js, Nuxt, React and Laravel are planned and not available yet.
